Rules and what happens if they are broken
Short version: use Veil to read and watch things like you would in any browser. Do not use it to hurt people or sites. The full wording is in the terms; this page explains how we apply them.
Not allowed
- Attacks, scanning, flooding, brute-forcing logins, spam, phishing, fraud.
- Illegal content, and anything that sexually exploits children (reported to the police, always).
- Reaching our own systems or private networks, or getting around the limits (several accounts, several browsers, selling access).
What we do when something is reported or noticed
| Situation | What happens |
|---|---|
| A site is being misused through Veil (phishing, malware, scam) | The site is added to our block list, usually the same day. The account that opened it is looked at. |
| First small breach, such as a second account for more allowance | The extra account is blocked or the allowance is lowered. No further action if it stops. |
| Repeated or deliberate breach | A temporary ban (hours to days). |
| Attacks, illegal content, fraud, or dodging a ban | Permanent ban of every account we can link to it. |
| The law requires it (court order, police request) | We hand over what we hold: the connection log described in the privacy notice. We hold no page contents, searches, names or e-mail addresses. |
How we find out
From reports sent to privacy@efm.onl or the report page, and from the connection log, which lists the host names an account opened and when. The log is kept 30 days. We can see which account opened a host at a given time, not what it did there.
If you think a ban or block is wrong
Write to privacy@efm.onl within 14 days. Include your account id (shown in the menu inside Veil, under your allowance) and what you were doing. We answer in writing and lift the ban if we were wrong. If you cannot sign in any more, write anyway and say roughly when you signed up.
Other limits you may notice
- New accounts: when sign-up is open, the first 24 hours have a smaller allowance, and the number of new accounts from one network and per hour is limited. This stops bots and people who make many accounts.
- Speed: each account has a speed cap so one person cannot use all the capacity.
- Busy: if the server is full, new pages may be refused for a short while ("Veil is busy"). Pages that are already open keep working.
- Allowance: 500 MB per day, reset at midnight UTC. Files your browser has saved from earlier visits do not count.
